On stage and off is the first volume written by Jerome K. Jerome in which the author describes his experiences, positive and negative, in the theatrical environment. Opting for a frank and sincere narration, which does not leave out even the most cruel aspects of the profession, Jerome introduces the reader to a world whose reality is very different from the one imagined by the spectator sitting in the audience. Everything is punctuated by his unfailing humour, capable of transforming a tear into a smile and capable of giving rise to optimism even in a situation that seems to be without a way out.
